Long Lost Soles - The Forever Search For The Missing Sock

In our house, as in many houses across the country, we have serial kidnappers living in our laundry room. You know what I'm talking about. The washer and dryer eats socks. I'm serious. They all somehow end up somewhere in this unknown vortex for sock gatherings, never to be seen or heard from again. In honor of those lonely pairs and in the hopes that their mates shall someday return from the unknown, I like to at least keep them organized and looking good until their long lost sole mate returns.

I found this blank piece of wood at Home Goods in the clearance section but you can use any type of wood you would like. It had some broken file clips. I believe in its glory days it was meant to display paper or pictures and such. I spoke with the sales lady and requested an additional discount because it was broken. They knocked off a few bucks.

I took it home, cleaned it up and headed over to Michaels in search of the perfect alphabet fonts. I thought I would be searching for sticker or vinyl alphabets but found these guys instead.

3/4" Wood Block Letters

They were the perfect font shape and size but in this natural wood color. I knew exactly what needed to be done. They just needed a bit of white chalk paint to make them pop against the grey backdrop of my new found project. This 2 ounce bottle is more than enough to cover these letters but you can also upgrade to a bigger size for re-use in other projects.

I then searched for clothes pins, assuming on natural or white but found the PERFECT grey to match the board and so viola! Time to create!

I hot glued the letters, once painted and dried, onto the wood. I also used the hot glue gun to attach the clothes pins, which are very thick and sturdy. Thus far, I have not had any issues holding up heavier socks and the clothes wins have remained in place.

Here is the final project complete and hanging in our laundry room. Many socks have reunited with pairs in an effortless and organized fashion and I'm pleased to say I love how the board came out!! LOVE IT!!!
